Smoky Quartz is part of the quartz family of gemstones (Quartz, Amethyst, Citrine, Rose Quartz, Ametrine, & Smoky Quartz,) It is incorrectly called Smoky Topaz since it is a quartz and not a topaz.
The Chemical composition is SiO2. (Or Silicon Dioxide)

Rose Quartz is part of the quartz family of gemstones (Quartz, Amethyst, Citrine, Rose Quartz, Ametrine, & Smoky Quartz,) it is used when it is opaque, Translucent, and Transparent. The first of the three is the least rare.  The later of the three is the most  rare therefore the most valuable. The Chemical composition is SiO2. (Or Silicon Dioxide)

Amethyst is a quartz stone (purple color) A practice today is using the green  colored quartz commonly found outside the purple bands of color and labeling it “Green Amethyst”.  Amethyst is one of the most popular of the semi-precious stones. It is used as the February birthstone but is adored by most jewelry wearers.

Ametrine has the mixture of two colors in the quartz family. They are Amethyst and Citrine. The most sought after is the intense orange and purple in the clear crystals. In the stores you will find Ametrine with some inclusions and some with no inclusions. The ones with the most intense color with the clearest crystals are the rarest and therefore the most valuable.

Citrine is in the quartz stone family. It’s color range is from Bright yellow to a dark orange, (which is the most prized). This stone is an alternative to the Golden Topaz as the November birthstone.  Citrine is a stone that looks good as a clear “faceted” stone or a translucent Cabochon style
